The City of Wanneroo is planning to upgrade Flynn Drive to a dual carriageway between Tranquil Vista and Old Yanchep Road. This State and Federal funded project will improve safety, reduce congestion and support future growth in Carramar, Banksia Grove and Neerabup.
Flynn Drive is a key transport link between Wanneroo Road and the Neerabup Industrial Area. The upgrade will:
- Improve road safety for all users
- Reduce congestion and travel times
- Support future development in the corridor
- Encourage investment and job creation
- Provide better access for emergency services
- Improve connectivity for cyclists and pedestrians.
As part of the approval process, the project is being assessed under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (EPBC Act). This is because the area includes habitat for Carnaby’s Black-Cockatoo, Forest Red-tailed Black-Cockatoo and contains Banksia Woodlands of the Swan Coastal Plain.
To help manage changes to the natural environment responsibly, and in addition to replanting along the road alignment, the City has put forward a Revegetation and Rehabilitation Plan. This includes:
- Replanting 1.78 hectares of native Banksia Woodland at Edgar Griffiths Park
- Rehabilitating 4.7 hectares of native vegetation at Montrose Park
- Changing land use at
both parks from public recreation to Conservation Reserves
- Protecting 38.46 hectares of high-quality Black Cockatoo habitat at a conservation site in Bindoon
- Installing artificial nesting hollows to support Black Cockatoo breeding.
