The following Terms of Use govern how the City of Wanneroo's Community Focus Group Network operates.
1. About the Community Focus Group Network
The City is committed to ensuring our community engagement approach provides stakeholders with the opportunity to participate at the appropriate level in the development and review of policies, plans and services and that feedback is provided on the results of the engagement.
All Wanneroo residents, community groups and stakeholders are invited to comment on engagement projects, with the City taking on board concerns and considering these in decision-making.
Members of the Community Focus Group Network (CFDN) also get the opportunity to participate in focus groups (online or face-to-face) to have a say on our community engagement processes and systems before changes are introduced.
2. What being a CFGN member involves?
Where it is convenient, when you are available and have an interest in a topic, you can help us by offering your ideas, thoughts and feedback on various new initiatives. You can also choose to participate in engagement methods that you are comfortable with, including:
- Surveys and questionnaires – Sometimes we might need simple yes/no opinions, or preferences, and in this case we might send out simple online polls or surveys to our volunteers.
- System and communication testing – Before introducing new webpages or processes, volunteers may be asked to follow instructions and trial systems or procedures and provide feedback
- Group meetings (either in person or online) – coming together with other people to participate in a facilitated session to capture your feedback and ideas on new initiatives. Meetings mostly will be held in the evenings during the working week and would last around 90 minutes.
- Individual conversations – Sometimes conversations are easier one-to-one. At times we might ask for volunteers from the group to help guide us on development of particular areas of our service through a telephone or face to face conversation.
Providing feedback on our website is an example of how volunteers have been involved in the past.
3. What amount of time commitment is involved?
- We may seek to gather opinions from our Focus Group Volunteers up to around 10 times a year, depending on topics and where people live.
- Most focus groups and individual calls will happen on weekday evenings.
- You can dip in and out of volunteering depending on your other commitments, or your readiness to take part at that time.
- You might also have a preferred way of engaging – groups, individual conversations or surveys. This is also your choice.
4. Getting support
- Access and inclusion is a key principle in the City’s Community engagement approach.
- If you have any special needs and contact the City and we will arrange options for you to participate.
- The City’s Your Say Wanneroo Community Engagement Hub also has a language translater, featuring the Top 10 languages spoken across the City.
5. Incentives
- Depending on the initiative, number of volunteers required and feedback required, marketing incentives may be provided, including gift vouchers or participants going not a prize draw
- Where meetings fall over lunchtime/dinner time, or are over 3 hours’ duration, food and refreshments we will be provided for all participants.
