Invitation to have your say

Tell us what you think about the City’s proposal to restrict dogs from being exercised off-leash within 28 environmentally sensitive nature reserves.

Restricting dogs to be ‘on-lead only’ is considered effective in minimising damage to native wildlife and flora.

The proposal is for dogs to be “on leads” and does NOT prevent or ban dogs from these specific areas.

There are 156 reserves across the City and dogs will be able to continue being exercised off-leash in most reserves as well as in designated dog exercise areas.

The 28 restricted dog areas (which are outlined below) have already been designated as prohibited areas for cats. In eight of these areas along foreshore reserves, dogs are already required to be on a lead.
