Help us shape the future of the City of Wanneroo and develop a new Council Plan!

The City is developing a new Council Plan that will encompass its vision and aspiration for the next ten years.

The Council Plan will detail the City’s shared community vision, aspirations and priorities for the next ten years and also set out the key strategies and actions required to achieve them. The Plan will also incorporate a four-year view of services, operations and projects the City will deliver.

The development of the new Council Plan requires valuable input from residents, ratepayers, businesses and community groups and we will be undertaking extensive consultation to understand the needs and desires of these important stakeholders.

The first phase of engagement was through the hugely successful Wanneroo Liveability survey, from which the City received 4,055 survey responses, as well as 6,218 community ideas.

The second phase of engagement, through online and in-person workshops will provide more ways for you to learn more about the development of the Council Plan, have a say or get involved.

Read on for full details on our community engagement approach.

Background

Under the Local Government Act 1995 and Local Government (Administration) Regulations 1996, WA Councils are required to undertake a major review of their “Plan for the Future” every four years.

The City last reviewed its strategic direction during the 2020/21 financial year with the development of the Strategic Community Plan 2021-2031 which was adopted by Council in June 2021.

By undertaking a full review of the City’s strategic direction we will be able to ensure that any changes that have taken place in the internal and external environments will be incorporated into a new Council Plan that is both relevant and fit-for-purpose.

The move to a Council Plan is being undertaken in relation to the impending changes to the Local Government Act 1995, this will merge the City’s current Strategic Community Plan and Corporate Business Plan into one overarching document.

Community Survey

The first phase of engagement was through the hugely successful Wanneroo Liveability survey.

The City received a total of 4,055 survey responses, as well as 6,218 community ideas. A total of 4,357 stakeholders participated in the collection of data.

There were three priority areas identified from a City-wide perspective based on the attributes from the Liveability survey that will be investigated further during the engagement activities, these key areas were:

1. Neighbourhood and personal safety

  • Sense of neighbourhood safety (from crime, traffic, pollution etc.)
  • Sense of personal safety (for all ages, genders, day or night)
  • Access and safety of walking, cycling and/or public transport (signage, paths, lighting etc.)

2. Public spaces, environment and recreation

  • General conditions of public open space (street trees, footpaths, parks etc.)
  • Quality of public open space (footpaths, verges, parks etc.)
  • Landscaping and natural elements (street trees, planting, water features etc.)
  • Elements of natural environment (natural features, views, vegetation, topography, water, wildlife etc.)
  • Spaces suitable for specific activities or special interests (entertainment, exercise, dog park, BBQ’s etc.)

3. Local businesses and amenities

  • Access to neighbourhood amenities (cafes, shops, health and wellness services etc.)
  • Locally owned and operated businesses
  • Local businesses that provide for daily needs (grocery stores, pharmacy, banks etc.)
  • These priority areas will form one part of the various inputs into the development of the future strategic direction for the City.
