Proposal details

The City of Wanneroo is exploring the need for development of a Changing Places Facility in the Clarkson Town Centre to improve accessibility and inclusion for better support people with high physical support needs, disability, their families, and carers.

Changing Places are purpose-built facilities that provide space and specialised equipment needed for safe and dignified toileting and personal care. Currently, there are limited Changing Places facilities across the northern metropolitan region. The City recognises the importance of improving access to these facilities so that people who require them have the support they need to participate fully in community life.

We’re now seeking community and stakeholder feedback to help identify the level of need for a facility in the area and to guide decisions about the most suitable location within the Town Centre.

If you, someone you support or someone you know required a Changing Place facility, we encourage you to complete our short online survey below.

Your feedback will help ensure that future accessibility infrastructure in Clarkson meets real community needs.

We’d also appreciate your help in sharing this survey with your networks, particularly with people with disability, their families, carers, or organisations that may benefit from a Changing Places facility.

Thank you for taking the time to contribute to this important project.

Background

The City of Wanneroo is committed to creating inclusive and accessible spaces where everyone in our community can participate fully.

As part of this commitment, the City is exploring the installation of a Changing Places facility in the Clarkson Town Centre.

Changing Places facilities are specially designed bathrooms that go beyond standard accessible toilets. They provide additional features to support people with high-support needs and their carers, including:

  • An adult-sized height-adjustable change table
  • A ceiling hoist
  • Space for two carers
  • A privacy screen and accessible toilet.

These facilities enable people with disability, their families, and carers to take part in everyday activities such as shopping, recreation, and socialising—without needing to leave early or miss out due to a lack of suitable amenities.

  • By gathering feedback from the community, the City hopes to understand:
How a Changing Places facility could support local residents, carers, and visitor
  • How the lack of such a facility impacts participation and access
Which location within the Clarkson area would best meet community needs
  • Your feedback will help the City make informed decisions that improve accessibility and inclusion for everyone.
